Christi Kruger joined the CSA&G as a researcher in January 2017. Christi obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Anthropology and Philosophy, from the North West University in 2009. She went on to complete an honours degree in Anthropology at the University of Johannesburg. In 2011 she completed her Master of Arts degree in Anthropology at the University of the Witwatersrand, focussing on the (re)construction of so-called new Afrikaner identities. Christi joined WISER as a doctoral fellow in July 2012 and her doctoral research continued to explore the formation of white Afrikaans identities in South Africa (thesis completed and submitted at the end of 2016). She is broadly interested in the transformation of South Africa as post-apartheid state, the various ways in which white South Africans have negotiated their social identities during the first decades of the twenty first century as well as the manifestations of whiteness within a uniquely African context.
